That’s why we’ve done the heavy lifting for you and picked out our top 10 fitness apps available for iPhones in 2022.
Best app for counting macros: MyFitnessPal
Free version: Yes
Premium version cost: $129.99/year or $29.99/month
MyFitnessPal has been at the top of the health and fitness app charts for a long time, and with reason. MyFitnessPal goes beyond just being a calorie and macro tracker, it’s a one-stop shop for many of your fitness needs. It integrates with over 50 different apps and has a huge database of workouts and recipes to help you with your goals. However, many of these features are only available to premium users.
The free MyFitnessPal app capabilities are still excellent, though, if you’re looking for the best app for logging food and tracking calories and macros. Out of all the food logging apps out there, MyFitnessPal boasts the most comprehensive food database (more than 11million foods). On top of this, user friendly features such as barcode scanning, recipe entry, saved food history and more, make food logging and macro tracking simple and convenient.
Best app for tracking body composition: Bodymapp
Free version: Yes
Premium version cost: $79.99/year or $9.99/month
Gone are the days of tracking your fitness progress just by stepping on the weight scales, or by spending money on body scans at gyms and clinics! The Bodymapp app allows you to do a full 3D body scan in the comfort of your own home, just using the app.
Bodymapp utilises the depth sensor technology in iPhone front cameras to map out the external contours of your body and find your circumference measurements such as your bust, waist, hips, thighs and more. The app then uses algorithms to determine health measurements such as your body fat percentage, fat free mass, waist to hip ratio and more. The app also creates a 3D avatar of your body so you can see a 360-degree view of your body, which is more than you can see in the mirror.
Bodymapp has both free and premium memberships for users. The free app version gives you your 3D avatar and all of your circumference measurements, however, some of your health metrics are locked. A premium membership gives you access to all body and health metrics, as well as exclusive features such as goal setting, avatar comparison, unlimited health reports and more.
If you’ve never scanned before, though, your first scan will unlock all of your body and health metrics for free, so you can try it out and see if the app is for you before you commit to paying.
Best app for yoga: Daily Yoga
Free version: Yes
Premium subscription cost: $60.99 for the first year, then $105.99/year after that
Daily Yoga is a great all-rounder app for a wide variety of yoga, Pilates and meditation classes. When you first sign up, the app asks you questions in order to determine the right program for your goals, body and experience levels, and will give you recommendations based on your answers. The app also allows you to build your own schedule for your individual practise.
The app is updated regularly with new programs and challenges, as well as e-books and inspirational quotes to help you stay motivated to continue practising. The only cons would be that many of the features are locked to premium subscribers and the subscription cost is quite high, especially when compared to some other yoga apps. It’s worthwhile to try out the free version or a free trial to see if this is the right app for you before upgrading.

If you’re an experienced gym-goer looking for a simple app to track your gym workouts, along with your reps and weights, then this app is for you! However, it’s still useful for keeping track of how much weight you’re lifting for different exercises, which can help you as you aim to lift more weight over time.
This app is relatively bare-boned, and it can seem confusing at first, but it makes up for its lack of frills with its functionality. The app has a comprehensive library of cardio and strength exercises – it also lets you add your own – which you can choose from to build your own routines. You can then fill out your sets, reps and weights as you work out and it will save those for you to refer to later.
